City Offices Closed Friday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept. 6

City Offices will be closed on Friday, Sept. 3 for a mandatory furlough day and Monday, Sept. 6 for the observance of the Labor Day holiday.

The following City services will continue to be provided:

  • Public Safety, including police, fire and EMT
  • Milwaukee Water Works – 24-hour drinking water service and Emergency Control Center, 286-3710
  • 286-CITY Call Center and City Hall Operator
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Tow Lot, 286-2700
  • Municipal Court will be open Friday, Sept. 3 and will instead take a mandatory city furlough day on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when it will be closed.

Garbage and recycling will not be collected Friday, Sept. 3 or Monday, Sept. 6 but will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Self-Help Centers will be open on Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5 from 9 am to 5 pm, but closed Friday and Monday.

Normal City of Milwaukee business hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 7.


Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley Honored in National Competition

 

   

The National League of Cities (NLC) has notified Milwaukee that it is a finalist for the 2010 Awards for Municipal Excellence. The awards recognize cities and towns for outstanding programs that improve the quality of life in America’s communities. Milwaukee was chosen for its highly successful Menomonee Valley Industrial Center and Community Park. The Menomonee Valley project took what was once one of the largest brownfields in the state and converted it into a thriving location for business, recreation, and environmental sustainability.

Milwaukee, Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Philadelphia and Phoenix are finalists in the category for cities with more than 500,000 people. The winners will be announced during NLC’s Congress of Cities and Exposition in Denver, Colo., Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2010. Read more...

The Public Policy Forum presented two of its highest awards to the City of Milwaukee Thursday morning in the Forum's annual "Salute to Local Government." MORE Ordinance Earns National Diversity Honors for Milwaukee

   

The City of Milwaukee has earned top prize in the National League of Cities’ City Cultural Diversity Awards. The award goes to cities recognized for implementing quality and innovative programs in communities to enhance and promote cultural diversity. Milwaukee earned the first place award in its population category for implementing the Community Benefits ordinance, known as the MORE ordinance (Milwaukee Opportunities for Restoring Employment).
