Milwaukee Police Department Office of Media and Communications March 16 - A 27-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on March 15 after he was caught breaking into parked cars near Alverno College on Milwaukee’s south side.
A security guard saw the suspect acting suspiciously near parked cars shortly after 7 p.m. The guard tried to question the suspect about his behavior, but the man ran from the area. The guard stopped the suspect in the yards in the 3400 block of S. 39th Street and officers quickly arrived to take the suspect into custody.
Officers found two GPS units in the suspect’s backpack as well as tools used to break into cars. The officers were able to later locate the two cars that the suspect had stolen the units from. The suspect had a lengthy arrest record with the Milwaukee Police Department, including several prior arrests for theft. He will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
Motorists are reminded to secure all valuables when parking their car in a public place. Thieves tell us they find cars to break into by looking for GPS mounts left on the windshield. Take the extra time to remove the mount from the windshield and prevent yourself from being a victim.
