Every day, 1,200 Americans die from smoking-related illnesses. This number represents more American lives than the combined daily total of alcohao, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide and illegal drugs. Ironically, smoking is the single most preventable cause of premature death in the United States. The Milwaukee Health Department's Tobacco Control Program assures and promotes community initiatives to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with tobacco use, and improves the health status of the Milwaukee community.
