ASSESSOR'S OFFICE 2009 REVALUATION INFORMATION

HOW WILL YOUR ASSESSMENT AFFECT YOUR TAXES?

Though the value of your property affects your share of taxes, the actual amount you pay is determined by the budget needs of the schools, county , city, sewer district, technical college, and state reforestation. Once the budgets of these taxing units are passed the assessments are used to determine the portion that is borne by each individual property. So, while at this time of year we are unsure of the amount of dollars each taxing unit will require to do business in 2010 we can relate your assessment to the budgets passed in 2009 -- the bill you most recently paid. To determine your change in taxes based only on the assessment complete the following calculation:

EXAMPLE:

2008 Assessment x 2008 Tax Rate($24.03) = 2008 Taxes (approximate)*

Enter the 2008 Assessment: Click to = Approximate 2008 Taxes

*This calculation is for regular property taxes only, special assessments (not computed by the Assessor's Office) and lottery credits are not included.

2009 Assessment x Estimated 2009 Tax Rate($25.98)** = 2009 Taxes (estimated)*

Enter the 2009 Assessment: Click to = Estimated 2009 Taxes

**Tax rate and taxes in this example assume the exact same budgets and tax levies for all taxing units in 2009 that they had in 2008.
