The City of Milwaukee has earned top prize in the National League of Cities’ City Cultural Diversity Awards. The award goes to cities recognized for implementing quality and innovative programs in communities to enhance and promote cultural diversity. On March 2, 2010 Mayor Tom Barrett welcomed Talgo, the high-speed train manufacturer, to Milwaukee. The Spanish company is establishing its North American manufacturing facility in Milwaukee and will build high speed trains for Wisconsin and other states.


Mayor Barrett Delivers 6th Annual State of the City Address

On February 15, 2010, Mayor Tom Barrett delivered his annual State of the City address at Manpower International Headquarters in Downtown Milwaukee. The speech focused on the Mayor’s goals of creating and attracting new jobs to Milwaukee, reducing crime, and preparing Milwaukee for the future.


"No Pet left Behind" Clinic

In an effort to spare lost pets and their owners the heartbreak of never being reunited, Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) is hosting a clinic offering low-cost rabies vaccinations, microchips and licenses.

Milwaukee Helps Haiti - Earthquake Relief Donations

The City of Milwaukee is partnering with The American Red Cross and World Mission Ministries to collect monetary donations for humanitarian relief in Haiti. Please give what you can at American Red Cross (1-800-236-8680) or World Mission Ministries.


Self-Help Stations Closed on Wednesdays

Starting Wednesday, February 3, 2010 the City of Milwaukee’s two Self-Help stations, located at 6660 North Industrial Road and 3879 West Lincoln Avenue will be closed on Wednesdays due to budget restraints. The Self-Help Centers are used by thousands of Milwaukee households to get rid of items no longer needed or that won’t fit into their garbage carts. Many use the Self-Help Centers to avoid the $50 special pick up fee for items too large for the normal crew.
